IceGripper Summer News 2011
July 26th, 2011 - 11:51 amIceGripper News: Summer 2011
Competitions, prizes, information and product reviews
We’re commonly asked; “What does a company like www.icegripper.co.uk do in Summer? Specialising in ice grips, ice cleats, shoe chains, crampons and winter traction products can’t be much of a business when it’s warm?” …It may come as a surprise to know that even at this time of year we are busy fulfilling orders. Why? When there’s no snow or ice about why do people order winter traction products? We asked our customers and here are the 5 most common reasons:
- “Last winter several products sold out so rather than wait I ordered now to be sure of having some for the coming winter”
- “I took advantage of summer discounts, special offers and promotions to save money”
- “I bought my friends some ice grips for their birthdays – a different and useful present for people who have got most things”
- “We bought several sets for our walking club, combining all our intended orders – we found IceGripper willing to give us an ‘out of season’ discount”
- “I am going trekking at altitude and expect to encounter some snow and ice and want to be prepared”
Competition
Spring news featured a simple, free to enter photo competition. We wanted to see how winter snow and ice affected our customers and asked you to send us your winter photos. The entries came in thick and fast with some great images. After a lot of deliberation we decided on a winner. Thomas A Fishburn’s entry was judged the winner because of the ‘big picture’ look shot on basic equipment, with great inventiveness. Thomas shot through the polarizing filter of his sunglasses using a very basic camera. A pair of ICEtrekkers Diamond Grip on their way to Thomas…
This Summer’s competition is just as easy to enter and also FREE. All you have to do is ‘Like’ our Facebook page. Everyone registered as ‘liking’ us on 1stSeptember 2011 will be automatically entered and a name picked at random. The winner will receive 2 x pairs of IceGripper Pull On Ice Grips We will announce the winner in the Autumn news and they will receive their prize in time for the winter season. Here’s a direct link to our Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/icegrippers
Trekking in the Alps Guidebook Competition
Spring news featured a great new guidebook ‘Trekking in the Alps’ by Cicerone Press. The winner of our FREE to enter competition was Kiki Anderson and a copy is winging it’s way to Kiki as we speak. Further copies and other great prizes can still be won in the competition running on Cicerone’s website, so check it out and get your entry in before it closes. Click on the image of the book to go to straight to the competition still running on Cicerone’s website….
NEW Product Review & SPECIAL OFFER
We’ve been busy at IceGripper – looking at new ideas and sourcing lots of new products for winter 2011/12. But of all the new products, the one that excites us most is Zipfy. This may be a name you have not heard of, but believe us - everyone will be talking about it this winter. So what is Zipfy? It’s a revolutionary new Freestyle Mini Luge Toboggan. You may be asking at this point (as we were, before trying them) IceGripper spends most of it’s time stopping people slipping and sliding on the snow and ice – so why stock a toboggan?…just one word – FUN!
Having had a play on Zipfy we all agreed that we just had to let our customers know about them! After all most of our customers have kids. So the menu for this winter is ice grips for the mums, dads, grandads and grandmas and Zipfys for the Kids and Grand Kids – what a strange but perfect combination! Have a look at the video and then carry on to see how you can get your hands on a Zipfy for FREE!
If you want to get your hands on this years ‘must-have’ Christmas present simply ensure you are signed up on our mailing list, which can be accessed via our website home page www.icegripper.co.uk Increase your chances by getting family and friends to sign up too. It literally takes 30 seconds. Sometime around 1st November 2011. We will load the website with 5 x Zipfys at a cost of £0.00 - zero! nothing! nada! (except postage currently £4.50). We’ll email everyone on our mailing list simultaneously and the first 5 buyers to get to the website will get them (one purchase per customer). We’ll announce the lucky winners in the winter news.
News & Information
Last years winter headlines frequently featured press reports about people being sued after clearing their paths of snow. A huge debate raged about the fabric of society unravelling. The old fashioned principles of looking after your local environment and community seemed under threat as several householders were (apparently) taken to court by people who slipped as a result of them clearing pathways and pavements in front of their property. But did this happen, or was it just an urban myth started by over-zealous press reporting? IceGripper did some digging (pardon the pun) and found that there was actual little or no evidence of anyone being taken to court – have a look at this blog: http://www.malcolmcoles.co.uk/blog/sue-snow-pavement Further research suggested that contrary to this myth, local authorities and government actively encourage citizens to clear snow from pavements and pathways and the government have a snow code advising how to clear snow and ice safely. Follow this link to the DirectGov website where all is revealed: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Nl1/Newsroom/DG_191868
Have a great Summer!
